Noticias Locales | The Javea Computer Club – June 2024 – Jo Ivory
After receiving fantastic help from the Javea Computer Club on testing my new valuation tool, I thought I´d give our clients some more information about them.
The Javea Computer Club was founded in 1984 and has been providing it´s members with support and training for 40 years! And there are still some original members at the club to this day.
It is located at the School of Bridge premises in Centro La Plaza, c/ Cabo La Nao 122, 03730 Jávea.
Initially founded to help residents to learn how to use computers, it has moved with the times and as smart phones came on the scene offered support to its members to embrace this new technology.
The membership is made up of mainly retired British Expats, but the club is open to everyone and is looking to embrace the “younger generation” and other nationalities, who can bring new ideas on how the club can develop and provide support to everyone.
The club has experts on everything including computer hardware, mobile phones, software, internet browsers, Microsoft Office programmes, email, social media and much more.
Every year new technologies and applications come to the market, with the rise of social media, like Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok. These applications provide much joy, but they also pose potential risks. Learning together how to spot the scams, while still enjoying the interaction is essential. With these platforms, there is not only phone use, but also photography and video that require new skills for some.
As well as helping each other with technology the club has weekly presentations about all sorts of topics and are active in providing support to local charities, one of the forms is refurbishing old equipment to donate to those that do not have the access to such equipment.
If you are interested in technology or want to learn new skills, I would recommend a visit to the club, they are welcoming and fun. For a very small membership fee of 35 euros per year, you can get help with software and hardware, join in with discussions and presentations, and assist local charities with the refurbishment of various equipment.
The club schedule is 3 mornings a week –
Monday – 9.45 – 12.00 – Open to all, general get together, discussions and help
Tuesday – 9.45 – 12.00 – Appointment only for individual assistance & specialist groups
Thursday – 9.45 – 12.00 – Presentations on general interest topics
